After the first edition of our sold-out extravaganza at the Symphony Space last year we wanted to bring you a more intimate, transporting concert/party experiences as we take over a gorgeous, hidden vaudeville house – the Triad Ballroom – to create a one of a kind, New-York-style, retro-nouveau New Orleans hot jazz experience. The Big Easy On The Hudson series serve as a bridge connecting the Big Easy of yesteryear with the Big Apple of today and bring together great artists on the forefront of hot jazz scenes of the two “Big” cities. This year’s headlining NOLA star bringing you a program of sizzling New Orleans’ hot jazz is the brilliant trombone player / band leader Charlie Halloran with his band. Mahogany Hall Pleasure Society Jazz Band’s leader, the phenomenal Jon-Erik Kellso, will be joining our NOLA guests as a representative of New York hot jazz world. The blowout Summer evening will also feature a constellation of special star guests including international tap dance sensation DeWitt Fleming Jr, early blues royalty, Queen Esther, and yet another royal, New Orleans’ own queen of burlesque, Perle Noire.

From the Kennedy Center website: Presented in conjunction with Jason Moran’s Forever Gershwin performance with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Kennedy Center MyTix program and Community Engagement department offer a FREE pre- and post-NSO show 1920s Hot Jazz dance party. Dance along as Queen Esther and her jazz collective The Hot Five pay homage to a bevy of classic blues singers, including Bessie Smith, Alberta Hunter, and Queen Victoria Spivey. Dance instructors will be on hand to lead the audience in dancing cheek-to-cheek in the Grand Foyer and under the willow trees on the River Terrace for a magical evening that will surely be a night to remember.
