Travel back in time for an exhilarating multi-stage immersive jazz age experience inspired by Storyville, New Orleans, the famed red-light district where early jazz flourished until it was shut down in 1917. The evening will include hot jazz by Aurora Nealand and The Royal Roses, Jon-Erik Kellso’s Mahogany Hall Pleasure Society Jazz Band featuring vocalist Mara Kaye, Dennis Lichtman’s Hottet featuring blues stylist Queen Esther, blues singer Blind Boy Paxton, and ragtime and stride pianist Dalton Ridenhour. Dancers and performance artists will include Gaby Galore & Her Sugar Shakers, burlesque queen Perle Noire, Phonograph DJ MAC, and Lillian Lorraine & Her Lovely Ladies. Hosted by Juliette Campbell, founder of Shanghai Mermaid, in celebration of the time-traveling cabaret’s 10th anniversary. Dan Levinson’s Roof Garden Jass Band with special guest vocalist Queen Esther Presented by Jazz at Lincoln Center and the New York Hot Jazz Festival It’s hot jazz weekend at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola! For the first of six distinct performances co-presented with the New York Hot Jazz Festival, we welcome Dan Levinson’s Roof Garden Jass Band and special guest vocalist Queen Esther. Levinson is a first-call clarinetist and bandleader known for his expertise in early jazz styles, and his Roof Garden Jass Band effectively transports listeners to the early days of jazz. Performing with them is vocalist Queen Esther, a very exciting addition to the band. She possesses a powerful, four-octave voice and an impressive versatility across jazz, blues, rock, folk, and Americana music. They’re here for one set only, so make sure to stop by and help us kick off the Hot Jazz Age weekend! This set will cover the first five years of recorded jazz, from the Original Dixieland Jazz Band to Kid Ory.
