Dan Levinson’s Roof Garden Jass Band with special guest vocalist Queen Esther Presented by Jazz at Lincoln Center and the New York Hot Jazz Festival It’s hot jazz weekend at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola! For the first of six distinct performances co-presented with the New York Hot Jazz Festival, we welcome Dan Levinson’s Roof Garden Jass Band and special guest vocalist Queen Esther. Levinson is a first-call clarinetist and bandleader known for his expertise in early jazz styles, and his Roof Garden Jass Band effectively transports listeners to the early days of jazz. Performing with them is vocalist Queen Esther, a very exciting addition to the band. She possesses a powerful, four-octave voice and an impressive versatility across jazz, blues, rock, folk, and Americana music. They’re here for one set only, so make sure to stop by and help us kick off the Hot Jazz Age weekend! This set will cover the first five years of recorded jazz, from the Original Dixieland Jazz Band to Kid Ory. From the Kennedy Center website: Presented in conjunction with Jason Moran’s Forever Gershwin performance with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Kennedy Center MyTix program and Community Engagement department offer a FREE pre- and post-NSO show 1920s Hot Jazz dance party. Dance along as Queen Esther and her jazz collective The Hot Five pay homage to a bevy of classic blues singers, including Bessie Smith, Alberta Hunter, and Queen Victoria Spivey. Dance instructors will be on hand to lead the audience in dancing cheek-to-cheek in the Grand Foyer and under the willow trees on the River Terrace for a magical evening that will surely be a night to remember.
