For three months, Queen Esther will reside at DUMBO’s Superfine on the first Sunday of each month, starting January 5th — 7pm to 9pm. Accompanied by guitarist Marvin Sewell, her two set evening will feature rare sides from the iconic siren Miss Billie Holiday. Reservations are strongly encouraged. (718) 243-9005
There are several compelling reasons why Superfine is our go-to bar in DUMBO, a neighborhood with not particularly lacking in solid bars: there’s the excellent decor, often featuring local artists’ work. There’s the bluegrass brunches, and the jazz and folk nights which seem to emerge without warning, but are always complimentary to the atmosphere. There are the reasonable happy hour well drinks, the surprisingly diverse crowds, and the friendly but not-overly-chatty bartenders. And most of all, there is that free orange-felt pool table.
The food is a derivative of Alice Waters’ slow food local and organic cooking and some entree items change monthly, while keeping their ‘famous’ pork chops, spaghettini, or grilled portobello sandwich. This is one of the few restaurants in Dumbo that consistently serves quality food.
