JC Hopkins Combo performs with South African jazz icon Hugh Masekela,
vocalists Queen Esther, Charles Turner and Somi
at Minton’s on October 15th at 7pm

Revered South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela joins JC Hopkins Biggish Band for a very special evening at Minton’s on Wednesday, October 15th at 7pm. The band includes vocalists Queen Esther and Charles Turner with Chad Lefkowitz-Brown and Julian Pressley on reeds, guitarist Solomon Hicks, bassist Dezron Douglas, and Shirazette Tinnin on drums.

Mr. Masekela joins the bandstand with his long-time brethren of over 50 years, the incomparable pianist Larry Willis along with one of the early pioneers of Cape Jazz and founder of SafroJazz, Morris Goldberg.  Also on the bill: a  Sony recording artist who has called Masekela her mentor since childhood — Somi.

Doors open at 6:00pm.
Performances at 7pm – 11pm.
Music charge: $10 at the bar, $20 at a table.

Dinner reservations are recommended.
