FREE Rooftop Jazz in Chelsea with Queen Esther, 6pm – 9pm
Cambria Hotel
123 W. 28th St.

Accompanied by pianist Jeremy Bacon and bassist Ben Rubin, Queen Esther sings the great American songbook for your after work/happy hour/listening pleasure for three sets, starting at 6pm.  You can expect to hear everything from 1930s swing to the smooth, easy listening sounds of the 70s — and yes, a few originals!

Jeremy Bacon (pianist) is an extremely creative and dynamic jazz pianist, fusing the raw volcanic energy of Don Pullen (one of his first important teachers) with the more introspective style of Fred Hersch(one of his last). Jeremy has also studied intensive classical technique with Sophia Rosoff of the Abby Whiteside Foundation, and Edna Golandski of the Taubman institute. He has played all over the world with his own group and as a sideman with others, including Charles Fambrough, Frank Lacy, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Jeff Ballard, Mike Mossman, Ugonna Okegwo, Pat Martino, Ralph Bowen, Joe Ford, Billy Hart and Warren March, just to name a few.

Ben Rubin (double bass) is a Grammy-nominated producer, (re-)mixer, bassist and composer. From performing at the Newport Jazz Festival and the Cannes Film Festival with Dred Scott Trio to producing remixes for Killah Priest and Karsh Kale, Brooklyn-based Rubin is a musical shapeshifter. With over 80 album credits to his name, Rubin has ranked high in the DownBeat Critics’ Polls every year since 2012 as a “Rising Star” producer for his work with the SmallsLive record label where he produced and mixed over 30 records with jazz greats.

Every Tuesday this new rooftop music series featuring some of New York City’s best Hot Jazz & Swing bands on an intimate rooftop lounge and bar featuring great drink & food specials, and the best part… NO COVER!

* Should there be bad weather, the band will play inside the hotel, on 1st floor near the lobby.
* Dancers… the floor is an all-weather outdoor tile, like concrete. We designed this as an afterwork happy hour / music event, and not a dance.
